However adter the good dinner offer to our friend Apsitos cause his birthday
anniversary .we had to go up the hill ...just 100 metrs Climbing ..but under a
Sahara sunny sunshine . it resulted quite .exaustive for the maximum size of our
friend. and more . to go to the studios you had to go down step by step till 150
meters under the hill level.. If the outdoor was looking not in good conditions.
the office and studios are very modern and with air conditioned, and you may
also see some beautiful photos in the WEB page.. All is digital and they have
links to the satellite ... the most well equipped radio station seen in the 2
days of my stay in Hungary.
From the 3rd floor of the big building where is operating Radio JAM it was
possible to look at a distant panorama..so we remarked dark clouds in direction
of Austria .around 220 Km north .. But still sunny beautiful day in the Balaton
lake area.

The studios are new and not yet finished also outside there is no identification
plate so if you arrive in Utca Forras .. Yo will find it only if you drive
slowly.it is after a bent in the very beginning driving to north, on the right
hand side.

CHNUT and we moved to our next station to see and visit, an important
brodcasting group Media in Kiev operating 3 FM stations and 2 Televisions.

In fact it is a quite controversial matter in the towns look like Kiev or
Kremenchuk where both stations are operating... even if the Europa PLUS (+)
network cover 90% of the country and EUROPA FM just the 25% of the country....

Vlad's friend in TWR is Petr Balatskiy (he studied with him) and correct
name of the street: Khorolskaya. Reasons for not visiting stations were a bit
different: Love Radio / Era FM did not allow us to visit the station for
security reason (Director of both station is former Security Service of Ukraine
employee). They were only really unpolite. Others were OK. Narodnoe Radio /
Prosto Radio (same company) were kind to accept us but we missed time on Tuesday
(due to traffic) and we were late (after visiting Vzrosloe Radio etc.) on
Wednesday, simply did not catch them in time. Radio Orange - Programme manager
left alone to work on organistaion matters on Radio (other responsible persons
are on vaccation) so he was very busy to find a time for us (he warned me about
this a week ago, so no surprise). In fact, they are not official voice of Orange
Movement which is only color name of those who supported Yuschenko in his
election campaign. Radio Apelsin started in 2003 before such a color has been
associated with that front. Radio Stolitsa - director could accept us only on
Wednesday, after 16.00 which was too late for us since you needed time to go to
Kremenchug.

On saturday morning I wake up at 0500 local time ...clear sky...on Kremenchuk
.... With Vlad we started the travel to Kiev 262 Km on quite normal desasterd
roads .... first we posted the many postcards I sent to my contacts in the
world.... and in the street we met a total drunked people crossing the street
ZIG ZAG ... hi! ... roads being saturday morning was quiet ...so at 0930 we
arrived at Kiev bus station... the one located at north west part of Kiev.... but
very quiet place ... not like the central bus station (a place better to avoid
if possible). At 0945 arrived Alexandr Egorov the Radio Ukraine International
frequency controller..... so the departure becomed more.... International .. he
kindly geave me some OLD precious Metal pins of Radio Ukraine International and
other souvenirs... and we do some photos souvenirs.... with the curiosity of the
other passengers waiting for the Bus which finally arrived..... not so many
passengers going to Italy. So I choose the best place in the central right part
of the Bus...
At 1035 local time the travel started and I said "DASVIDANIA" to
my friends ..... Soon after Kiev the rain started to make the roads more similar
to rivers ..... but the driver surely was used to such situation...We stopped at
Zhytomyr ...still raining ... I had time to do a local bandscan : UR 2 Tx Promin
is OFF THE AIR (please take care all UK2 and UK3 TX in Ukraina are off the air
except the ones operating in Kiev area from june 2005 !!!!) 71.12 MHz

horribles... on the bus I started some human contacts with the 4 Italians going
like me back to Italy .. Paolo living near Sarzana with his young wife Ukrainian
back from 1 month spent at wife parents in north east area... Giuliano from
Catania planning to marry an Ukrainian ..... and Roberto from Volterra back from
a work for an Italian company.... also Sergey going to FIAT Torino for a week of
full immersion learning work shop.. and naturally many ladies going to Italy to
work for ...summer seasonThe Bus Television offered a moovie .... Ukrainian
featuring a caricatural story of a mad inventor ... transferring people to old
age of ZAR .... quite "SFOTTO'" moovie.... At 20 hours we arrived at LVIV ..and
surprise we stopped at local bus station operated by Euroline company to change
our bus ... with another more modern .... so no problem at all to change the bus
... I only got my original bus place in the meaddle at the right hand section...

control passport Uk/HU at around 0100 hours local time ... less one hour in
Hungary ..many trucks ... but very soft control by UA Lady militar ... just 30
minutes... but more strict by HU militar ... with even opening of some bags of
UA women passengers at 0200 hours ... but no problems at all ..... So we
restarted our travel and I sleep for about 6 hours ... the roads in Hungary are
surely better .... Around 1100 hours we arrived to BUDAPEST ..but no stop at bus
station... we crossed the town ... and the historical bridge of Alexander.... in
15 minutes ... no traffic on sunday morning...in a very sunny day .... so I
listened to some FM stations ...82.90 RADIO DEE JAY BUDAPEST, 90.90 MHz COCA
COLA SOUND ... and 98.60 RADIO CAFE.... among the others ... We stopped at M1
Highway Mc Donald just outside Budapest border city limits ... the TOILET very
clean had a controll woman (bit mad) ...continuing claiming 0.40 Florins for the
service ... so I geave her an EURO COIN ... and she get back to me .... 0.60
Euro coins !!!!... incredible .... hi... So the Bus passed near TATABANYA and I
listened to Radir Radio on 97.80 MHz ... not so much traffic on the M1 High way
to go to the Austrian border GRAZ....we arrived at 1600 hours ... and the
controll by Austrian - Hungarian police resulted very speedy... 20 minutes...just
pass control of passport in a modern machinary... no baggages control... the 2
drivers was very happy...The Television bus started a program with folk songs
exibition produced by RADIO SHANSON ... they are specialized in songs quite
similar to the ones of BRUNO CONTE, BRUNO LAUZI, LUCIO DALLA in ITALY... ) this
followed by another satyrical moovie produced in Ukraina and with story in
Krimea ... where it seems according the moovie story the local people loves to
drink and to ...do love ...but this happens also in some Italian areas ....hi!
After GRAZ on the Austrian Highway and before the Tunnel ... I had an
interesting listen on 93.90 MHz Bartok Radio Hungary in fact this Tx is the one
which may be heard to west of Hungary ... and the one I will try to get from my
listening place in Rimini next july... even if on 94.00 MHz there is the bloody
TX of RMC MONTECARLO (relay Covignano..RIMINI area splashin on 93.90 MHz).....unfortunatly....
FM4 RADIO in Austria is the best station offering good oldies songs. Finally we
arrived in Italy ... no controlls naturally ... this explain why the Bus drivers
pass from Austria ... GRAZ,WIEN,SALZBURG,KLAGENFURT .... a quite long travel ...
instead off the more short itinerary from Slovenja... but with more controlls
and needs of a VISA for Ukrainian going to Italy.... At 1900 hours we stopped at
UDINE bus station ... 5 hours before the scheduled time .... and at Mestre Bus
station (located 300 meters from rail station) at 2100 hours ... no traffic at
all on the A4 High way .... and so with my surprise and the surprise of Sergey
going to FIAT Torino and look like me stopping at Bologna bus stop we arrived in
the central rail station square of Bologna at 2325 ..... around 5 hours before
the schedule ... may be a GUINESS RECORD ???? HI!!!

I am visiting Hungary and Ukraina for first time, the travel started on 1st
June at 1730 hours local time from the Milano Bus terminal at p.ta Garibaldi
rail station, the cost is 75 Euro one way only to Budapest, The Euroline Bus is
top good quality and it arrived from Torino in time, with just 10 passengers ...all
women ... the beginning of travel on A4 highway to Venezia resukted very much
crowed cause the 1st June is the start of a long 4 days bridge holidays in Italy...
2nd June is the Repubblica day... hard to explain the quantity of cars and
trucks I saw on tangenziale est directed to south direction ...10 Km all blocked....
In Venezia direction not so much.... till the Agrate enter pay tall .... the
traffic Jam remained almost till Brescia ... in 2 hours we arrived at first
stop...but no passegers éounted in to the bus...Second stpo Verona.... no new
passengers...
In Padova I started to listen with my ATS 909 portable equipped with 2 filters
MURATA 80 kHz....... so I controlled Radio 80 Padova still working on 1O5.3 MHz
and 104.4 MHz so the annoced tranfere to Radio 101 has not yet started ....
On 107.9 MHz the program of Italian Folk music of Radio Mamma Mia (Ex Company
Dance) resulted of good listening.
The ISO RADIO on 104.3 was alerting of 11 Km of STAU AT VENEZIA ! pay free tall....however
the Bus was able to limit the problem with the FREE PASS to pay.... we passed
thousands of CARS and also trucks...Next surprise our Bus was going to Venezia.
Where come up the Bus a couple of young married Ukrainian people.. this show
Venedig is very famous Place for the JUST MARRIED people.
I still monitoring with my receiver and discovering on 103,5 MHz RADIO LA OASI
DE LA MODULACION ...RADIO VENECIA" Yes with YL Dj annoncements in Spanish... and
ambiental music no stop.
Again big troubles at the final track of the A4 Highway...... near Pordenone I
listened to Radio TPN Energy 100.8 MHz with mix no stop of Disco House "noise".
We lost 50 minutes to the douane control after Trieste.... no idea why the
control cause my bus had no stops in Slovenja.... but anyhow finally we crossed
all Slovenja and in 1 hour we passed near Lubliana capital.
I listened to many FM stations , one UNID on 93,4 MHz Radio Murtas surely in
Slovenja.....
Abord the Bus all very quiet... luckly no Red Skin woman look like in Canada in
summer 2öö3...hi!!!! but the street to pass resukted very bad..... look like a
GRUVIERA FROMATGE, hi!.
At 0500 hours local time (in Hungary time is summer time same as the one of
Italy) wake up cause the controll passport ...really very fast .... just 15
minutes... no control of baggages.. that is good
..... more will follow .... I am too much tired now...
Here the details of my good arrival at Budapest yesterday morning 2nd June, at
0915 ....45 minutes before the scheduled time.
I listened aboard the Bus from the area of Balaton, 110 - 80 Km far from
Budapest, still many signals from Croazia and Slovenja and also from Austria and
Slovakia.
102.8 R.Slovenia Int. Maribor (English news for tourists).
104.4 "GPL" RDS from station in Slovenia ...but which one ?
105,3 "RPS" RDS from station in Slovenja....but which one ?
107,5 + 107,8 ORTORENI RADIO (OPEN RADIO) from Kroatia.
102,0 R. OSIJEK from Croazia "R-OSIJEK" with RDS
101.7 ORF FM4 TX GRAZ AUSTRIA

naturally also HRT HR 1 , HR 3 transmitters.
After the touristic area of Balaton, at around 60 - 40 Km from Budapest the
reception becomed more regular only for Hungarian radio stations.
So at 0930 I met Istvan Hegedus and we went at his home located north west of
the west part of Budapest, called BUDA....
We had lot of talks and funny stories to tell us after 15 years he visited me in
my apartment in Milano.
Around 1900 hours while we were listening to the local FM dial in the FM band
with his Pioneer Stereo desk model F-301 RDS... we were able to listen to an
opening of 20 minutes to Spain....the area of Valencia...
Among the stations taped : ZOOOM RADIO 87,80 MHz + COPE VALENCIA 94,3 + RADIO
AIRE LATINO 88.5 VALENCIA and possibly 93,3 CATALUNYA RADIO ALFABIA TX in
Baleares.
So for the good start of my visit to Budapest we drinked a bottle of
Champagne.....
Istvan explained there are around 50 FM stations more or less regularily logged
in the FM dial 87.5 till 108 MHz mostly from the Budapest area, but also coming
from Slovakia look like 87.7 REBECA TX Banska Bistrika , Slovenia 1 on 88.5 MHz
TX POHORIJE , AUSTRIA on 89.3 OR3 TX GRAZ, Slovakia on 90.1 RDS "SRO_1_" ,
Roumania 91.4 Radio Timisoara (Ex 91,3 MHz)......
But naturally also more signals are coming if there are good TROPO FM conditions.
In the weekends also some Pirates stations are operating in the downtown area of
Budapest... 92.5 Radio Fiesta + 99.3 Radio Mix + 99.5 KINCSEM Radio .... just to
mention some of the more actives...they unfortunatly play lot of CHUMPA CHUMPA
CHUMPA sounds...very idiots...
Tomorrow we plan to visit some radio stations.... the report will soon follow.....
too much things to do on 3rd and 4th of June so only today Sunday I have the
time to report about my travel.
On friday 3 June we started our first day visit to the Budapest Radio Stations
quite early in the morning, the office usually open at 0800 hours and closes at
around 1600 hours, with no breaks at midday.To go to Pest where are located most
of the radio stations you need to cross the Danube River ...and you may choose
only 2 of the 6 bridges... and you cant believe to the traffic jam of cars and
trucks.... so from the III Buda area going to XI area we needed almost 1 hour...
A bright sunny day friday ....temperature around +30 C with wind from east....
so we started visiting Hungarian Catholic Radio :

We had a fixed meeting with Chief Engineer Gabor Frischmann He attended us very
friendly giving us little parer info and mini poster with studio photos. Not yet
printed stickers. Their studios are quite new, just 1 year and before the
building has been a children baby private school.
The station operates on MW and is well heard in south - central Europe, on 1341
kHz ...but there are interferences on 1341 kHz from BBC Northern Ireland TX ....
the other channel is for local area in Budapest on 810 kHz former utilized by
Radio Juventus Budapest (now only on FM), but unfortunatly the MEGAWATT TX from
Skopje is even doing heterodine at daytime, so not a good choose... the station
is stricktly in contact with Vatican Radio and they relay the Hungarian service.
The equipment is all computerized and processed from the Satellite and
connection to the Cable FM system in many towns of Hungary. Mr. Gabor Frischmann
is very much interested to get reception reports which are carefully controlled
and verified by letter, and don't forget to add an International Reply Coupon.

After this very good start we moved to visit Radio 1 operating on 103.9 MHz
located not so much far from if you utilize the car ... but in the city there
are many Bus,Tram and also Metro line (the first in Continental Europe done just
before the XX century started ...1893) WEB :

Address : H-1062 BUDAPEST , ANDRASSY UTCA 86 this street is famous cause
many historical buildings stand up, and it is no more allowed to change their
size by the municipality.I had a contact name of Promotion Director Miss
Henriette Nagy. Cause she kindly sent some stickers to one of my friends in
august 2003.
A really beaufitul girl, she presented to me Mr. Sztano Peter the Chief Engineer
so I learned the station is called Radio 1 , cause the owner is same as Radio
Europa 1 in France (La Gardiere Group Paris)but cause the name Radio Europa 1 in
Hungarian did not sounded far from Radio Europa Libera station...they opted for
a more easy RADIO 1.... the station is at 4 floor and all rebuild the reception
and offices, naturally all is digitalized sound and connection to the 14 !!!
studios in the country are done by this system.
Nominal Power in Budapest is 5 kW, Gyor 96.4 MHz is 1 kW, Debrecen 92.3 MHz is 1
kW, Szekesfehervar 101.8 MHz is 1 kW..... the other are less powerfull and
really intended for a local service.
The station seems not interested to get reports, but now after my visit Mr.
Stano Peter assured he will reply by letter.

Need to add the station is surely friendly and to visit them you don't need an
appointment, the receptionist eating pomodori and onions and potetos kindly
given to us some MATRICA ( the stickers in Hungarian)....
We visited next one not far from called BUDAPEST RADIO operating on 88.1 MHz the
name is may be confusing with the international service, but it is totally

they have also another frequency on 97.3 MHz with local area service at
DUNAKANYAR.

To find the exact address resulted a bit problematic cause NO number on the
building... however to find it...it is located at the corner with street called
THOKOLI ... it is a big commercial building.The station has many phonecalls
programs with listeners in the morning so no surprise we arrived at a wrong
moment ...the director was live on the air ...so no possible to talk with him...
The WEB page of the station is very informative ...but has no English text ...
The kind receptionist Nora kindly offered to us some large rectangular stickers...and
give her some from Italian networks as usually as little souvenir of my visit.

The station is specialized for financial and economical news reports 24 hour...like
in Italy we have Radio 24...
We met the Chief Redactor Mr. Martin Kovacs Miklos he is a very famous
journalist and speaker and he worked for the national Radio before the start of
the private stations, the receptionist offered us Coffee and mineral water, so
we got lot of informations how the station is very well organized for the servic,
every day they also carry an English financial report in English at 0745 (Monday
to Friday).... The station is not interested to reports but I explained about
our ...strange hobby and he promised to take care of them, his personal EMAIL

I got the new stickers (USA size) in good quantity and this naturally satisfate
me very well...
Need to add they have also done via a private company called Radio Mania in
Budapest 2 differents phonecards with their old logo in 2002 and 2004...and I
have yet both them in my phonecard collection, so I was very pleased to know
more about this station....
So with 100 % of good results we went back at home.... traffic jam still very
high at 1400 hours....
I listed at home with my Sangean ATS 909 and the only interesting matter has
been to catch on 87.60 MHz RTA Algerie CHAINE 3 in French-Arabic at 1850 for 10
minutes with good signals TX KEF EL AKHAL power 10 kW.....
So much for today ...tomorrow we will do a travel in the country... see you

I have had some problems with the computer. the computer of my friend Istvan is
good, a 2000 SAMSUNG SYNC MASTER 550b.. that not good it is all in Hungarian
language.so I have done 3 times some mistakes to compile the message.. Well now
I do it in Microsoft word.. So it should be the good one. hi
Saturday 4 june we wake up quite early in the morning cause we had fixed a
meeting with good frien Istvan Apsitos living in Tatabanya a town on the M1
Highway 62 Km far from Budapest, the sunny day a bit windy from north was
really perfect for the car travel. At 0830 we arrived and met our friend, here

He is operating a Cyber café Internet point, and he has a large collection of
audio recordings of FM Dxing stations heard by Esporadics, so we listened to
some of them and also we look at some of the digital camera photos in his
collection all related to broadcasting.

She was doing some administration jobs so we has been attended by the chief
engineer, he show us the studios, with authomated computer system and the 100
watts transmitter modulated at 78 watts..

We also got some RELIQUIA Matrica. black red grey. a bit dark punk choose

But naturally I do not care to the quality of the Matrica, so I was just happy

We say Szia and we moved about 50 Km to south west to the little town of Mor
where is operating a local radio station called 1000 RADIJO' Mor operating on
89.0 MHz .

General Manager Gabor Rusvai arrived to open and to show to us the studios,
they are there just from 1 year.
At same place he operates also a local television EZERJO MEDIA TELEVISION.. Few
watts power.
So we explained to him about our hobby and about summer propagation in the FM
band.I show my photos of my house museum of souvenirs.so he kindly wanted to
geave to me a special souvenir.3 super size MATRICA of 1 meter each one . with
old name EZERJO RADIO MOR .. Really great for me. we also got new round size
white and green Matrica.. We do photos of the studios with no problems.. The
town of MOR is bilingual cause there are German minorities so Mr. Rusvai speaks
very well German language.
After so good meeting we moved to the more big town of SZEKEFFEHERVAR at around
40 Km to the south here is operating a very special commercial radio station
caller FEHERVAR RADIO on 94.5 MHz.

The web page is really interesting there are original old photos of the REGEN
broadcasting station operated in 1942 by the SS German Nazi troups, with 15 kW
TX, and this explain why the building is a real Buker in a stone hill of 100
meters.
To find the place it is a bit complicated, cause the city is large and the place
is a bit outside the centrum. so we had as references the Restaurant called
BANYATO' VENDEGLO, Address : H-8000 SZEKEFFEHERVAR, Zsolnai Utca 39.. After
some . wrong informations got from people to whom we asked . may be they don't
like that restaurant.hi.we finally found it ..and immediately saw the Bunker
there is located the radio.
The place is very nice.a little lake with Quack Quack and 2 Cygnus sailing in
the quiet waters (the lake is just 50 meters) so at 1145 hours being yet opened
the restaurant we had lunch under secular threes and looking at the Quack Quack
.. Very nice indeed.I eat INVOLTINI DI POLLO WITH JAMBON and BOILED POTATOES.
Kindly Mr. Radetzky told us the story of the Regen hill and indeed it is a
place you must visit (it is not so far from the Balaton area) ... we also got
the rectangular Matrica.
Final information the little girl in the WEB page is the daughter of the General
Manager ..
So we say SZIA to him and we go up the long stairchain .and our passage (mine
80 kilos and the ones 160 kilos !!! of Apsitos .) created a real mini earthquake
and a big "VASA" broken suddenly.. Ha ha ha . but luckly the hill did not
collapsed down.ha ha ha ..
We moved again to VESZPREM town 50 Km more to west and right in the northern
Balaton Lake area.
Not so difficult to find the place cause we got good informations from the
radiostation.
Radio JAM is operating on 90.6 in VESZPREM, 91.8 for BALATON area, 92.7 PAPA
area (yes it is a town with this name ..but they don't belong to Vatican
State.hi) , 88.8 AJKA town.

So we met "TOMI" Tamas Szekeres he is also an the hobby FM listener and so we
talked lot about FM DXING and about propagation and other topics, he kidly
offered to drink and I found in the frigor a bottle 1 liter of ICE TEA .one of
my preferred summer soft drinks.so you may imagine what happened to the .ICE TEA

The station is naturally operating news and reports about turistic happenings in
the area, but has no English programs, they also relay the programs of Radio
Juventus Budapest..usually at 1000 till 1400 hours .. If you get Radio Juventus
on unlisted frequencies this is the explaination.
Surely a very friendly contact and we have been very happy for the good meeting.
Next one visit to Radio YO 97.1 MHz located in VARPALOTA town has been
organized by Istvan Hegedus cause he wrote 3 reception reports to them but he
never got a reply.so . our mission was to get a verification.letter..
..often Commercial FM stations do not care about our "strange" hobby.

Also Mr. Matay has been very friendly and he naturally compiled the "SOSPIRATA"
QSL letter to the report unreplied. and the SMILE arrived into the eyes of
Istvan Hegwedus ..
So our great travel into the Hungarian country till that moment resulted perfect
.. In our schedule only lasted one station to visit . in Sopron .a town near
the border to austria.just 20 Km from GRAZ. but strong wind and dark clouds
started to be seen at north . from VARPAROLA to go to SOPRON .190 Km.. And it
was 1630 hours. we phoned to Sopron Radio 94.1 MHz and the owner said he was
expecting us . so OK we decided to go there .. However the hurricane was coming
and we get it at Kapovar a town 50 Km before Sopron .
This naturally made more slovly our driving . but finally we arrived ..under a
real "DILUVIO" at the Big SOPRON PLAZA center where is located the commercial
station .
So no problems to enter into the big big Centro Commerciale (PLAZA CENTER) .
the station studios are at 1st floor and near GONDOLA DI VENEZIA BAR .. Romantic

The station changed the name recently cause before the name was IKVA RADIO 94.1
(the IKVA is the river of Sopron city) .so they did not have in this moment the
new MATRICA logo. and .for me a real "DELUSIONE" not to get even the old ones
.. But my eagle eye soon noted one on a computer desk . and I asked if was
possible to get it . but the matter was it was so well fixed .and so no possible
to get it ..
WWOOOOOOWWWW ... after a visit to the nice DJ slagering in the Studio live. we
stay at the GONDOLA Bar next to the door of the SOPRON radio office. talking
about the difference of the broadcasting in Hungary , Italy and Austria ... and
realizing so bad crawled as in Italy it is hard to find in the whole Europe..the
FM BAND. I forgot my plastic bag in the office so we went to get it and I seen
another OLD IKVA RADIO little red yellow Matrica on another computer desk.. And
this time I was able to capture it for my collection of 260000 MATRICAK... great
final for a great historical day ..
Before to leave from Plaza Big Commercial store .. I wanted to buy 3 postcards
featuring the fampous ALARM FIRE TOWER of SOPRON.look like a lighttower and in
reality it is a Fire tower. cause the city is sorrounded by forests and in the
past centuries often he had problems with fires..
So I get the postcards and we started our long long drive back to Tatabanya home
of Apsitos . around 165 Km ..
Still lot od heawy rain . and even some thunder.and the road partly under
water..
At the Papa town .the sunset appeared and so we saw a great perfect rainbow.and
Apsitos was able to fix it in his digital camera. one additional special photo
souvenir.
We arrived at Tatabanya at around 2130 still raining but more softly. so we say
bay bay to Apsitos and we continued till the BUDA home .need to say in BUDAPEST
no rain at all . probably the bad weather was going to the north east to Ukraina
area..
So this report is completed .. Tomorrow is Sunday and we will relax . especially
Istvan ..after a round trip by car of about 500 Km .. In one day..

After the full day travelling day of past saturday I had a more quiet Sunday...
in the mid morning we try to visit the philatelic and phonecards market located
near the big square in front of the Transports museum of Budapest, the BUS 60
has a stop right here... We went naturally by car, but with our surprise no
market this sunday cause a live show organized by the Mayor of Budapest with
young modern pop music groups ... so we went to AUCHAM Super Iper Market in the
area where my friend ISTVAN live with his family... It is almost the same of the
ones we have in Italy...but indeed the products are differents and price for
vegetables are less than in Italy... much more priced the liquors... UNICUM
special bottle half liter is around 20 Euro...
Around 1300 we were again back at home... so after lunch I listened to the Radio
and later I wrote some emails messages....In the evening we look at TV set, by
cable system there are 50 channels and also RAI 1 ITALY may be seen perfectly...
Monday morning I finally has been able to send my message to the group...and at
1300 hours we moved to city center to go to Radio Budapest International service,
cause I had a meeting with the Italian section....
Cause is Italian related I will write it in Italian text...

Alle 1410 ero in Brody Sandor e dalla reception chiamavano Stefano Cobino e
Maria Peredi che mi veniva a prendere e mi faceva arrivare fino al 3 piano dove
in uno dei 9 edifici dove é ubicato il grandioso complesso del servizio
nazionale ed internazionale si trova dislocato... in una modesta ala del 3
palazzo il servizio internazionale.
Rita Faragó era in missione fuori Budapest peccato ... ma egualmente mi faceva
piacere di conoscere 2 delle voci che presentano programmi sia culturali ...come
l'intervista del lunedi oppure del sabato Passo a Passo con notizie turistiche e
storiche...
Ci mettevamo a chiaccherare e venivo sommerso da tante domande che riguardano i
vari aspetti del radioascolto... gentilmente ricevevo alcuni souvenirs sempre
graditi, e la serie completa delle QSL 2005 (sono 4) del servizio
internazionale.
Venivo a conoscenza del progetto di spostare tutta l'emittente dal centro
storico ove si trova adesso in una zona fuori cittá in un nuovo grandioso
complesso futurista... un progetto a lunga scadenza... ma che certamente sará
attuato dato che l'area dove si trova ora ha un valore immobiliare stratosferico
...ed il governo ha bisogno di reperire i quattrini per il progetto...Pertanto
se volete visitare Radio Budapest (ed in effetti vale la pena dato che trovere
la redazione molto disponibile ad incontrarvi) vi conviene affrettarvi se volete
vedere una parte della storia del passato... di una emittente che da oltre 35
anni trasmette in Italiano.
DOPO VENIVO ACCOMPAGNATO IN UN DEDALO DI CORRIDOI, SCALE, SALONI, FINO ALLA ZONA
DOVE SI EFFETTUANO LE REGISTRAZIONI AL PRIMO PIANO...lo studio 16 é utilizzato
alle 1530 per fare registrazioni che poi vengono diffuse nel programma serale La
prima trasmissione va in onda alle ore 18.30, ora italiana, su 3975 KHz, pari a
metri 75.4, e su 6025 KHz, pari a metri 49.7, onde corte. Le stesse frequenze
valgono per la replica che va in onda alle 22.30, ora italiana.
Facevo l'intervista che poi andrá in onda in uno dei prossimi spazi dedicati ai
radioascoltatori in onda al mercoledi.
Tornavamo poi in redazione dove potevo scambiare qualche parola con il
direttore del servizio Italiano Peter Magyar, che mi spiegava che in maggio la
direzione dell'emittente aveva deciso di continuare i vari servizi esteri almeno
per 3 anni... una buona notizia indubbiamente.
Con l'augurio di rivederci in Italia od a Budapest di nuovo, ci lasciavamo....
ed all'ingresso trovavo il mio amico ISTVAN che dai 2 guarda ingresso portinai
era stato scambiato per il mio TAXISTA personale ...ha ha ha ....

Well you see some "empty" channels ...but there is quite a lot RF local if you
do not utilize an outdoor antenna... and with just the telescopic antenna of the
ATS 909 Sangean you may have spurius signals from local area TX...of corse
during TROPO conditions they tend to disappear .....

Another great day WEDNESDAY 8 June has been lived here in Hungary thanks to the
precious help of my local friend Istvan. In the morning we had a meeting with
the local radio station of the Budapest University.... operating on 97.0 MHz....well
if you look at the yesterday message Budapest Band scan .... from north part of
Buda ... you see it is missing... this is not a mistake ... they can be heard
just in the central part of Budapest....

So cause the problem of no parking in the street ...I entered alone in the
building... first problem you need to click the citofon and digit ASTERIX 110
... well luckly a gentlemen explained to me ... after my severals
tentatives not positively got... hi Second they open the door ..and you enter in
the top quality level building ...but no explainations ...of the step ...so I
took the elevator and visited the 4 floors...and yes it is located at 4th floor...
all is very modern apart the 2 chairs probably belonging to the CZAR...hi!!!!
The receptionist put me in contact with a news worker who spoken English and I
got some informations and some materials .... a portapass orange ..but sorry no
MATRICAK... even if they have them ... however no problem .. you may see the

After this visit we went to another quite special Radio Station operating on
98.0 MHz CIVIL RADIO (Civic Radio...Radio Cittadina) it is in the BUDA sector so

After a big red church .... of Suilagy Square ... so naturally again the parking

been shared by three different community radios: Tilos, Civil and Fiksz Radios

The station printed Matrica in 1995 and some are still on the windows...but
almost impossible to catch them cause ... too thin material plastic...
After this interesting meeting we come back to Istvan home..in an usual Traffic
total caos ... and we stopped at AUCHAM ipermaket to buy some ready to eat food
...a big POLLO ARROSTO al GIRARROSTO ....
At 1430 hours we started our travel to met Nemeth Jozsi in Pannonhalma ....
again to pick up the M1 highway we needed to cross all BUDA area ... this is
really the non sense of the city organisation ... so again big troubles with
many cars going out Budapest.... but finally we escaped from this paranoia...
The M1 Highway is the one who goes to Austria .... and the same we utilized to
go to Tatabanya last saturday... The sky was not clear and dark clouds annonced
rain just in the area of Pannonhalma.located at 110 Km from Budapest is a

taste ...and really I needed it for the back travel cause still heawy rain ....

Unfortunatly here also today friday 10 June is still rainy very hard and is
still freeze (12 C) look like in winter time... the bad weather coming from
polar area (thanks Finland for your kind present) will stay also for next coming
48 hours said the weather forecast in Magyar Television. So this morning kindly
Istvan took me to the city center to try (!!!) to visit some FM stations ....
but our plans unfortunatly has been devasted by the total caos in the streets
...some streets loking look like rivers !!! others look like the little lakes
...However I had the fortune to may visit Radio Deejay Budapest 92.9 MHz... the
station is owned and operated by Radio Deejay from Italy....

The station is located in the giant MAMMUT commecial center, the main enter is
from MARGIL ART in the BUDA part of the city.... so not difficult to be found....
the studios are at 3rd floor... no problem to enter in the office... the door is
open ... Miss Brigitta Jambrik the phone operator and Miss Stella Szonja the
translator service where both in the office, so I talked with Stella in Italian,
she explained the station is most favorite by young listeners, and their
coverage area is 50 KMq around Budapest ... even if to north they have
interferences from Slovakia. She kindly given us some souvenirs and also a
coffee MUG....
After this good start I wanted to try DANUBIUS RADIO the most important
commercial station operating on 100.5 MHz in Budapest and over other frequencies
in the whole country... at same address operates also Roxy Radio 96.4 MHz (all
dance music station)...so we moved to the other side of the city ...crossing the
bridge ..this took us around 60 minutes to do 2 Km .... but why so much traffic
??? well in Hungary it is allowed if you work in office ...to start your weekend
PAUSA ...the friday after 1300 hours .... so it was look like it was in Italy at
1700 hours...on a friday ...and you may understand this particular situation
...and the rain and the caos level so much high ...we arrived at DANUBIUS RADIO
big building around ... 1300 hours .... so too late to may visit the offices...the
reception unfortunatly is the main entrance and the 2 guards people carefully
controll the access to the offices... so nothing to do...nothing to see ...nothing
to get... so pls remember if you will visit Budapest ... the radio stations are
usually not open to visitors the friday afternoon ... or better you must call
them before to attempt to visit them... if you want to visit them on friday...

The Vaci Utca is a kilometer street starting from the SZENT ISTVAN Korut soon
after the MARGIT HID (bridge,ponte) ...on the map seems not so distant ..but the
number of cars going out the city for the weekend ...was so high to do it we
lost 1 hour !!!!!

I am now in Kiew ! and all is going very well thanks to the assistence of my
local good friend Sergey Kolesov, I met him in 2001 odissea travel to Greece and
Turkey ... unforgottable visit with him and Pavanello to Istanbul....those crazy
taxis.... hi!!!
Well before to leave from Buda the 10 june saturday evening .... I had the time
to pick up at the Istvan house some ESporadics coming from Sweden,yes ... at
1850 local time suddenly RADIO 1 SR1 arrived in my ATS 909 let open to control
the conditions on 87.6 MHz TX from Gotland with 60 kW.... also in // 87.9 MHz
OREBRO 60 kW, // 88.5 MHz Vannas TX 60 kW...... in // 90.6 MHz Alvsbyn 60 kW ...
15 minutes of English/Sweden program very boring (as usually...sorry Hasse) but
surely very appreciated by me... first time Sweden ESporadic in my ATS 909

Outside still raining...9C and so freeze my friend had to switch on the central
heating...like in winter time...
At 2200 hours we were at central bus station of Pest area....no traffic on
friday evening ..... the building is very modern ... but I tell you one
interesting item ..if you need the toilet it needs 0,70 Flr .... or you ...will
not be able to utilize it... OK in Italy often is the same ...but usually you
have someone who change money...
The Bus station almost desert...just a bus for Prag,Berlin,Hamburg at 2230.. a
nice Euroline bus ....
At 2245 arrived mine to go to Kiew...from Wien ... and quite different.... in
spite of the "ROYAL CLASS" written on ... it had nothing of Royal class .... but
OK... lot of people in the bus... so the driver decided my place ... and the
near one place with yet a Lady.... so quite hard to hope to can listen with my
ATS 909 during the travel...
At around 0100 hours (please ADD one hour if you enter Ukraine) we arrived at
CHOP border point.... a real CAOS ..of trucks hundreds.... but the good driver
...passed all them ..going into the other direction ... even if cars goimg to
Hungary were not so happy .....and still lot lot of rain ....
The control resulted soft for both sides... very kind the Ukrainian controlled
compiled for me the paper written in English ... but also with LILLIPUT
cararacters...may be test of oculists ???
So after 3 hours we restarted ...no ideas if in time or before schedule... but I
guess surely before ... I think with VISA control may be it takes more ??? May
be not... from next October if you want to visit Ukraine you need again VISA
....
The first stop at LVIV a big town ...after a very terrible street.. looking like
the provincial road PAVIA-Mortara ...or the one CATANIA-Regalbuto .... just to
geave an idea of the size and conditions...impossible to sleep... impossible to
listen ... just "DANCING ON THE STREET" look like a gong song of the past .....
At LVIV some people descended ....so I get more space cause the Lady near me
wanted MORE space (sorry I am a big man size) ... So I started soon to listen on
my Radio ...we were around 630 Km far from Kiev..

and more naturally cause LVIV is a real big town.

The BUS station sounds look like an open market... with mini bus... desastered
bus... some bus from Germany .... well I needed to go to the TOILET (this stand
up a fatiscent building...so this I was able to find it) ... luckly for me I had
some money UKR called HRIVNA.. so I geave 20 ...and the lady geave me back 19.60
!!!!!!
With no protests ... don't try it in Italy ...hi
Well the stop was 5 minutes so I get time ...but a lady ....arrived quite late
to the bus ... and the driver said ..next time you will pick up a TAXI !!!!!
OK ...I listened KISS FM 104.7 MHz with lot of funny (for me) advertisings....
NASHE RADIO on 106.0 MHz with also adverting for LG electronics every 2 minutes
...
ON MW only one daylight signal on 936 kHz LVIV National Radio ...
At ZHITOMIR another ...funny stop ... the CAFE'house was ok ...but you need ask
the key to go to the toilet ...for free in any case ... but the door remain open
...if the costumer do not close it.... So finally I get my turn... the BUS was
already playing the CLACSON ...just in time abord ....
The road becomed better and two ways each direction so the speedy of the bus
went higher and higher....
I get in FM 103.0 MHz NOVE RADIO (NOVOE in RUSSIAN mind NEW RADIO ,not Italian
NOVE 9 NUMBER...OK too much lessons...)with local advertising TOYOTA car

and HIT FM 103.7 .....
So big networks has the possibility to cover all the nation look like in Italy.
After all the sunny appeared .... the bus was quiet with no terrific moovie to
be seen and heard (hi) so I started to sleep...almost till the arrival of the
quiet Bus station periferic .... of Kiev..
The last stop in fact resulted in front of the Central BIG square of the Kiev
Railway station .... I wonder with a rain or snowy day it must be terrible to
test it.... but luckly it was 1830 and sunny ....
So I met Sergey who very clever phoned before the arrival to the driver so he
learned the BUS arrival time 90 minutes before the expected schedule ... and I
suggest you do the same ... or you arrive before and you will stand for your
partner meeting....
We went to Hotel Predslava booked by Sergey for me... but don't try to find it
on internet it is the last Government Hotel for business people coming to Kiev ..and
I am surely a business people for .... Nakleiki (STICKERS in Russian language)

So after a dinner ..... don't TEST Turkish coffee please (Roberto will agree
surely) ...
we went to visit the home of Alexandr Egorov the technical Chief of the
Ukrainian National Radio ...and he is the DX editor of the English Dx program of
the Radio...... he lives at 16 floor in the west part of the city ... great view
and he also do TV FM Dx ... today he got an UNID TV station on around 48,25 MHz
..... He showed us his special receiver ...it exist only one in the world...and
we listened to RAI in the 13 meters for exemple .... and on MW that pestifer
Greek on 1566 kHz ....WWOOOWW they cover lot of countries ...
We will met him again next monday afternoon for my interview...
So I am now at INTERNET POINT in Krasnoarmeyskaya Street (RED ARMY STREET) 116
not far from my Hotel ...very cheap 10 HRV. per hour... about 1,5 Euro .... with
ADSL line ...very good ... especially if you have the free assistance of my good

Sunday 12 June I wake up with the bad surprise of cloudy sky..and windy...annoncing
more rain to come on Kiev area... however kindly Sergey as promised arrived at
1000 hours to pick up me to go to the sunday free market of the city ... to
search for phonecards sellers ...and also metal pins .... and other stuff look
like this ... before we visited the central post office ..... yes the central
post office is open also on sunday in Kiev ... we searched for the EUROVISION
CONTEST special stamp issued...but we found closed the philatelic office ...and
the open office managed by a sweet young lady ..gives us only normal stamps.....
adding she didn't know about that particular stamp issued in MAY 2005 !!!!! ...
At main time ..... it started to rain .... thin rain ... so we went to that
market place ... but it resulted to be a quite unproductive idea .... well the "exposers"
put the items to sell on the ground even if it was raining .... and imagine what
it happens to papers items under the rain ???? well after lot of looking we
found 2 sellers with phonecards with some belonging to 1+1 Television .... but
nothing of special ....
Quite "iced" we come back to Sergey home to eat something .... and at 1500 hours
(still raining very strong) he invited me to visit his future place where he
will be living in some year ....it is a little rural village called YABLONOVKA ..70
Km south east from Kiev.... in 80 minutes we arrived ...it is a very nice place...there
is a little lake ....many plants fruits grove up ... and the typical quiet
living of the county side ...with caws in the green grass and still horses
living ..... so we tested the FM band and in fact it resulted to be very quiet
.... no spurius signals ... NO RF noise ... but...but NO PROPAGATION ...so our
efforts did not produced any kind of TROPO or Esporadics listenings ..... may be
next time we will have more lucky...
Back to Kiev but cause the bad weather not so much traffic on the streets ....
so I stay at Sergey home to look at his collection of verfications..... and to
eat some Russian food (Bliny with meat) cooked for us by Lenka the Lady of
Sergey.
At 2300 hours back to my Hotel ...at 250 meters distance ... finally no more
rain ..... in fact the TV predictions are partly cloudy for Monday over the Kiev
area...

Monday 11 June has been the first day for me with the impact with the life in
Kiev, the traffic was not so crawded,in the morning, but cause the difficulties
expected with the parking places... we opted for the TAXI....
Need to have some informations.... almost ALL the people living in Kiev speak
Russian language..so it doesn´t need you try to speak in Ukrainian ...which for
me resulted very hard to be understood... instead if the Russian language which
has many words ...familiar to Latin language.... so if you do not speak Russian....
and you expect English taxi drivers ...forget it... and please call a taxi from
your Hotel...they have naturally Super lux Taxi with English speaking ...but
prices are very high.....
Cause I has been with my good friend Sergey Kolesov... I had no problems to use
TAXI.... the system is quite UNICUM .... well in Kiev NO ONE is able to tell
you how many TAXI exists ...why ???
simply cause every one may become a TAXI for you ... so you stand on the streets
corner ...and you move your hands ...and soon an OLD LADA or an OLD FIAT 124
will stop .... but with no license plate ... may be a BIG TRUCK will stop !!!!
or a luxury taxi...so you DISCUSS the price..if the ride is in Kiev it cost 15
or 20 HR. no more around 2,5 till 3.2 Euro ..... even if you stay blocked ONE
HOUR in the traffic ...the price doesn´t change .... this is very good ....
Naturally the problem is the language ...but if you have a good map of the city
...BILINGUAL (you buy it for 2 Euro in the central Square of Independence)(at
same place there is also the central post office) ... you may solve the problem
if you pick up your TAXI in the street....
So we utilized lot of TAXI ...and we found many differents MODELS ... some
SLEEPING drivers .... some friendly .... some ENERGUMENICS.. some with a car 40
years old .... but ALL !!!! very carefull to the schizoid traffic of the city
.... surely less congestionated than in Budapest .... (cause big trucks are not
allowed to cross the city center)...but unfortunatly with many little crashes
...which blocks streets .... usually you can move your car ONLY after the police
and assurance company (in car is insured) is arrived to look at what happened
....
So with partly cloudy sky..butgood fresh temperature we went to see our first
station.... IMPORTANT REMARK ... you MUST call the station office to take an
appointment or you may have very bad surprises.... usually at the station they
have English speaking people except some exceptions.... or by the way you may
contact them by eMail.. OK ????

YES they are located in a new building at last floor ...you get a skyline view
of the city very impressive ... ansd cause just two weeks at this area...the
street to arrive resulted look like a county inunded by water rains of sunday (see

The station has LUXURY furnitures and they still are putting order in the
offices and studios ... Miss Natalya (a real kind and beautiful person) take
care of us showing the studios all digitalized... the station has no connections
with the famous FRENCH network ...but naturally play same good old songs of the
past ...so same format ... and it seems this is getting good listening
audience... The founder of Radio Nostalgie visited Paris years ago and so
remained fashined by Radio Nostalgie in Paris so he wanted to do one in Kiev...so
every hour they start with a famous French song. No material printed available
...but surely they will do it soon.

He put in contact with Miss YAROSLAVA the Program Manager
So we learned the history of the station, first to start with the name Europa
PLUS Kiev .... seattled by the station operating in Moscow and after becomed
totally independent from them... but another station started with name Europa
PLUS UKRAINA....also operating in Kiev ... on 95.6 MHz and so you may be
confused if you listen the FM band in Kiev with two stations operating with
similar name...but totally different owners... and you can imagine the big legal
fighting for the respect of the priority ...but till today the case is still
pending under the court... it seems the add of UKRAINA ... is sufficent to
operate in the same listening area... so at present EUROPA PLUS FM 107 decided
to call himself simply EUROPA FM 107.
Miss Yaroslava very kind said no stickers available in this moment.
Next to be seen a very special station the :
MOLODE RADIO operating on 69.68 MHz don't think I have written wrong numbers...
in Ukraina the OIRT band is still in use .... so the radio authority geave that

He speaks English very well...
He and his two collaborators were very happy to meet us... and this meeting
resulted more unformal than the 2 precedents, and I had long explainations about
the listening hobby... the propagations rules... the broadcasting differences in
Europe ... cause I weared the T-shirt of Radio FOR PEACE INTERNATIONAL in
COSTARICA .... they wanted to know the story of this peaceful station closed by
the Costarican authorities under pressure of US Govern .... and really they were
all 3 SURPRISED to know the story .... cause for most of students the US mind
freedom of speech ...and ideas .... but only if you have the same ideas of the
..... govern of US .....
They explained the station is operating with volunteers speakers and each one
does a program as he prefere .... this is surely a very good idea.

printed for a recent music festival organized by them. I naturally explained to
them they are doing a very good service to the young people in the city...

few minutes at the English studio where it was the recording of the news
commentary program of famous speaker (sorry but we don't know now the name ...)
famous cause is working from 19..... (this is a secret detail ..we are not
allowed to tell this particular to you ... again sorry ...)
Finally we crossed the big big court ...and Sergey told me ..hooo look at that
car ..is NUMBER 92 the plate ... so this car is for the 92nd most important
person in the country ... I am the 21864333 ..but it doesn't matter in our
report....
Don't worry ..we really arrived in the office (ermetically closed to avoid
people searching for ...free telephon calls....) located at 2 floor (but look
like in modern buildings the 6 floor...) So I had the second INTERNATIONAL
interview of travel .... in MONFERINGLISH ..... for the English service ..to
North America and Europe.
Alexandr had a list of questions (very looong..) but very detailled and
interesting questions... and my only personal fear ... to reply to the question
: DARIO what is your preferred program .... cause I should have replied ...THE
NEWS....
I offered to Alexandr some souvenirs look like the Stamps of the MARCONI birth
1974 of Italy ... and he appreciated a lot this ...so he started to search
something for my collection ...and YES he found(after a favour from Sergey...) a
MINI block notes with the logo of the Ukrainian Radio .... very rare item ...you
may guess why ???only 100 printed....
So we talked about many matters ...like frequency problems and the new DRM
system ...and he said he agree with our opinion .... very much sceptical about
the REAL future of this system .. specially cause the HIGH cost to start it ...
and due to the fact almost NO ONE in our little planet has a receiver for this
system....
So we went back to the front enter of the radio ...and we so again CAR 92 ..waiting
for the BIG boss called 92 ....
In one of the loooong corridors my attention was attracted by a STICKERS !!!!!!!
standing on a door where is a studio for the NATIONAL SERVICE 207 kHz 1st
Program , 549 kHz 2nd Program on MW and of corse OIRT FM BAND 64.00 MHz till
74.00 MHz .... details in WRTH 2005 are older about the OIRT BAND cause programs
2 and 3 stop to utilize this band in the regions (only continue in Kiev...)
Yes a sticker incredible for me ... also Alexandr remained shocked (even if he
doesn't collect stickers...) but all the efforts to find one or who put it on
that door failed .... We also heard some strange sounds coming from one of the
next doors near the one the sticker was standing ... but the door was closed ...
So with no stickers...no qsl cards...no pennants ... no pencils.. no lapis ...
BUT with an UNICUM little block notes we do a photo outside the giant stone
building... a good souvenir of another (for me MEMORABLE interview ...)
So after this exaustive day we went at the good and cheap internet point and
after we went to eat in the cheap restaurant of the Hotel Predslava ...with the
CAMERERO speaking Italian a little and with many plates also French ones ...

Sergey arrived at hotel around 0945...and we started to utilize the TAXIs...cause
during normal working days to find a parking in Kiev center is almost look like
MISSION IMPOSSIBLE ...
Good Sunny day and also windy....and radio stations starts to open office around
0900 hours...but big BOSS arrives later on...after 1000 hours .... so we decided
to visit a radio station quite particular for many reasons.... first it was
known as RADIO ROKS UKRAINE operating on 103.60 MHz ... but after it changed
format and during the ORANGE PARTY campain for the Presidential votations
President Viktor Yushchenko they transmitted live all the happenings far many
days.... so they relay now the Parlament meetings and the public may follow what
is happening live listening to them...so you understand RADIO ROKS was not an
appropriate so they use slang Jingles as "RADIO ROXY" ...cause now they don't
play ROCK music ....
So we met the news editor Miss Julia Titarev (she is the daughter of Dxer Vlad
Titarev ...I am now writing this report from his house in Kremenchuch) she told
us all the story of Radio Rocks Ukraina and indeed it is a very special story
.....

all digital and modern equipments.The WEB page is really particular with so many
Cherry everywhere ..... and in the whole world there are only 2 Radio Cherry FM

ago the station issued a poster wall for advertising with the Dj in Sexy style
....but the advertising in the streets was not accepted cause too much HIT....

The station is under reorganisation so for exemple the WEB of Sharmanka is not

After this visit we moved to THE VOICE OF KIEV (GOLOS KYEVA) as the owner like
to call his radio station ...2 years old.... quite funny to enter in the giant (again)
building the main enter door is closed for works ... and you need to enter by
secondary door...and in this part of the building no elevator .... so we asked
...there is an elevator ?? and a local worker said..yes but it is broken ....
but this was not true... luckly cause the station is at 6 th floor...

Mr. Kryvosheyenko very kindly invited in his office and he show us many interest
to our informations about the WRTH to which Sergey is collaborator for the
Ukrainian Section. He geave us a clock wall quite big and too much big for my
travel possibilities..so now the clock wall stand up in the home of Sergey ....
But I got some pens and other souvenirs. The station want to be the most local
news in the FM band of Kiev cause other networks operating in the FM Band often
forget to tell to the listeners that is happening in a city of 2.400.000
inhabitants.
The time as usually was running out...so we went to AVTORADIO the Sergey
preferred radio station, in fact they play oldies of the 70's and also Italian
songs....look like SUSANA by CELENTABO.... This is cause the Director loves
Italian songs....

The station is indeed very popular among the TAXI drivers and often report about
the traffic problems in the city.
So after this positive round up of many fm stations all located in Kiev we come
back to Hotel and I went to internet point for my report ..... and later at
Sergey house to eat a speciality of the Ukrainian cuisine , Chicken with
potatoes novelle and souce ...... we talked about our futures travels around the
world and surely we will met us again in the coming years.
I may say sincerely without the help and assistence of Sergey I should not have
been to be able to visit positively so many stations, all contacted with
phonecalls by him.....

So we are arrived at my last day in Kiev. Wednesday 15 June a sunny morning I
had the meeting at the Hotel around 0945 Hours with Sergey Kolesov and VLAD
TIRAREV coming to Kiev from Kremenchuk a town located 260 Km south east from
KIEV. We went all together to visit the studios of Trans World Radio Ukraine
where are produced the programs transmitted from the super power TX located in
MOLDAVA operating on 999 kHz. Alexandre CHMUT (EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR) is a good
friend of VLAD and in the 70's THEY studied togheter and done some DXIMG hobby
together.
The studios are located in a building totally rebuilt and originally utilized as
a young hostel in the 50's All the programs are sent with cassettes to Moscow
and from Moscow via link are sent to Moldava studios.
Reports are welconed by email to

They receive almost 500 letters from normal listeners every week and the TX from
Moldava is located in a very good place and cover perfectly all the Ukraine, for
this reason they are not interested to open stations on the FM band in Ukraina.
We talked a lot with the staff of TWR studio and we took also some photos of a
wall with the souvenirs and photos of their most important moments in their
life.
The European TWR main office is located in Monaco but headquarters are in
Indianapolis in USA.

The 3 stations all has repeaters in the whole country and EUROPA PLUS is rated
among the most listened stations.
Their actual address is temporary and all the Media of the group will move to a
new big building of 4 floors which actually is under rebuilding from next
november this explain also some lack of informations in the WEB of 106 MHz
DOROSLE RADIO which is under works.
However the Director very kind accepted to meet us.... he explained also very
cleary that problem still open with the other FM station operating in Kiev
called now EUROPA FM on 107 MHz....In the beginning the original station network
in Moscow opened a station in Kiev called Europa PLUS and this started on the
107 station, but after 3 years they decided to stop the cooperation with them.
At same time the company media of DOROSLE RADIO contacted the FRENCH Company
EUROPE 1 and got a new agreement to operate the station for them in the whole
Ukraina under the registered TRADE MARK of Radio Europa + UKRAINE .... so after
some monthes the station on 107 MHz was forced to change call identification
with EUROPA FM but they still utilized the old logo ..... so still is pending
under the Supreme court of Ukraine a cause to determinate who has the right to
use this original logo.....
The technical manager IGOR REZANOV is very friendly and interested for reports
and he promised to verify all the corrects ones with letter.
I saw during the visit tour into the studios some PENNANTS and he kindly geaves
all them free to me as souvenirs of my visit to them .... indeed this makes me
smiling .... cause this material is very rare... I even got a green party flag
of Ukraine Green party who was in the building before they took place in the
building before to transfere in the official place under rebuilding......first
time I got a flag of Green Party .....
Sergey Kolesov try to call other missing stations to be visited after this MAGIC
good visit after 1430 hours ...but no positive replies :

102.50 MHz PROSTO RADIO they headquarters are in ODESSA...so in Kiev they have
just an advertising company....they are too much busy to take care of foreign
visitors.
104.60 MHz ALPESYN RADIO (ORANGE PARTY) they have real strict security rules to
enter into the station cause they are the official voice of the Ukrainian Orange
Party supporting the Premier of Ukraina.... so not allowed the visitors.
105.50 MHz RADIO STOLITSIA (CAPITAL RADIO)......very unpolite .... no reason
given to the refuse of a visit to them ....they supposed we were SPYIES .....

Well but I guess thanks to the great organisation of Sergey Kolesov in 3 days I
have been able able to see almost the 75 % of the BC stations operating in Kiev....
and almost all has been very friendly with us.
So if you plan to visit Kiev ...you may contact Sergey Kolesov via email in

please do it almost 5 monthes before the time you will plan your visit to Kiev,
cause Sergey often works for his company outside the country so it is not always
at home.....OK????
With VLAD car we started the long travel to KREMENCHUK town located 260 Km ....we
crossed the big bridge over the DNIEPR river and we passed the new city part of
KIEV where iper giant house living has been built ...it is impressive to see so
larges constructions and I wonder from there has been found the $$$$$$$ to build
these constructions ????
The street road going to AIRPORT was very busy with many BUSSES .... some
privates lookn like the private TAXIs..... made even more crowled the traffic
jam .... the highway to AIRPORT has 4 ways to go and 4 way to come and perfectly
build with no holes .... Vlad told me funny stories about TAXIs from the airport
to the city .... they ask to tourists or visitors arriving at the AIRPORT of
KIEV usually for a ride to the city ... 60 or even 90 US DOLLARS !!!!! but if
you ....discuss the prize ...in RUSSIAN please ...hi.... cause if you try in
English they said NO SPEAK ENGLISH .... hi.... you may cut the cost of the ride
even of the meaddle ...till 30 US DOLLARS which should be the correct price ...
or you may pick up the bus to the city ...which usually is crawled by
pickpockets and baggages and needs even 90 MINUTES ride.....
So I guess all these informations may be really useful to value the matter .....
Soon after the AIRPORT the road suddenly change aspect ....becoming the usual
...desastered road full of holes....and only 1 way to go and one to come back
.... but traffic jam is very poor .... ..... we had a stop of some 50 minutes to
relax a little and to sleep ....after a so busy day visiting stations in Kiev.....
so around 2030 hours after 5 hours travel we arrived at very quiet town of
Kremenchuk founded 557 years ago .... Vlad house is the county just outside the
border city limit to south west .... his wife IRA expected our arrival .... and
welcomed me ....

FM conditions due to some storms passing just a bit northern to Kremenchuk..
As I have yet told you ....you never can get all that you want ..... but I had
long talks with VLAD about our hobby and to the many developpings happenings
from the early 70's years then we both started to be active listeners....
naturally VLAD had more difficulties cause in this period it was more hard to
write letters to countries of tyhe western emisphere than I do from Italy.VLAD
is IBB monitor and he does it very carefully looking at the frequencies they
asks to control.
He has a very good listening station : AOR 7030 receiver and SURPLUS receiver
for MW and SW and OUTDOOR antenna in his garden K9AY..... and an ATS 909 SANGEAN
for FM listenings.
We listened very well to reactivated service of RADIO VERITAS LIBERIA 5470 kHz
around 2115-2200 UTC thanks an email messaqge I got from active Italian listener
LUCA BOTTO FIORA who first noted it in the world .... other catches : ABC

Regarding Transilvania Travel Report: I have a few corrections and additions:
One station we visited is missing - Music Radio (same building as Hit FM etc.
and Nashe Radio), we visited them between Hit FM and Nashe Radio with a lot of
souvenirs. YES true ....a beautiful blu cangiant T-shirt ..stickers .... Sonya

Thanks Vlad in fact this is the second local FM station operating in Kremenchuk.
I am now back to Milano where I arrived 20 june monday mornimg around 9 in the
morning ..... But here the details of the events happened.
My Interregionale train to Milano at 0500 hours ... and ...another surprise ...quite
BAD one ... the ticket office at Bologna rail station close at 2330 ... no ideas
why ??? Sergey got his tickect to Torino ....me no !!
Luckly the office for the trasvellers help located in the north internal part of
the station is open all night ...so I get the assistence to do my tickect ride
to Milano ... with the authomatic ticket slot machine ....
Sergey sounded a bit .... amazed to see the "funny" human trash ... sorry... in
the waiting room ... and I needed all my efforts to make him more calm ... even
if 2 colombians trying to be in fight discussion with a dirty (and quite
undelicious parfumed... old man) for a seat used as a bad room...in the large
controll room... but luckly no police arrived .... the horrible waiting room
however in 5 hours (we stand) had no police control... and in fact only people
allowed to stand should have had a tickect.... but many cleary was just spending
a free night ... cause you know Hotels in Bologna costs 120-150 Euro one night
...
A "lerch" fat man with black foot (unwashed from undefinite days) snored for all
the time ... also to do nothing in your life makes you sleeping ....
Sergey said in Kiev such can't be .... accepted ... I explained ITALY is the
freedom country ..so don't be surprised...
At 0330 hours a student coming from Peru going to visit a friend living in
Torino captured our attention... he was speaking only in Spanish ... and Sergey
in English ... hi! so I do the authomated translator ... of corse Spanish to
Monferinglish ... hi!
Pedro from Lima ... did not found the correct track of the Espresso train
Bologna-Torino at 0315 ... cause first scheduled on track 11 in reality arrived
at track 4 ... but the information service did not annonced the change ... very
good BOLOGNA FS top quality service... The night voice speaker is an aged man
with no teeths and the pronunciation resulted (in BOLOGNA ITAIAN SLANG) almost
unclear...
So he accepted to go to Torino Porta Nuova with Sergey ... at 0620 Sergey did
not wanted to test the night train... guess why ?? hi!
At 0455 6 energumenics men arrived with the message cried "FUORI FUORI DOBBIAMO
PULIRE" .... I think they do it with quite sadism .... so all the waiting
passengers and the night trash human (sorry) started to move to other places ...
may be outdoor square ???
My local train was waiting for me ... so I said Dasvidania to Sergey and Mucha
Suerte a Pedro ....
Very good, clean, fresh train ... in 3 hours (I sleeped like a stone...hi) I
arrived at Milano Central station....
Well a quite good travel .... and lot of souvenirs ....
Next travel is not so far .... MEXICO together Roberto Pavanello from next
July-August ...... another adventure to tell to you ...if you want to read it....
